Why you’ll love Vietnam

Ten days down the length of the country, from the capital, Ha Noi, in the north to Ho Chi Minh City in the south, with Da Nang and Ha Long Bay on the way.

Vietnam is long and thin, and the trip is built around that shape rather than around one city. Ha Noi in the north is the capital, and it is the part of the country that still looks and eats like itself: a dense quarter of narrow streets, a lake in the middle of it, and food that costs almost nothing and is better than it has any right to be. Ha Long Bay is a few hours east of it, where several thousand limestone islands stand straight out of green water. Da Nang sits halfway down the coast and is the beach half of the trip. Ho Chi Minh City in the south is the loud one, the commercial capital, and it is where the country's last fifty years are easiest to see.

Ten days is what it takes to have all four without living on an aeroplane, and that is why this one is longer than most of what we run.

For a Pakistani passport the two questions are the visa and the food. The visa is ours to handle and it is inside the price. On the food, Vietnamese cooking uses a great deal of pork and a great deal of fish sauce, so halal eating here is a matter of knowing which places to walk into rather than hoping. That is what a local guide who has been asked the question before is for.

Great experience of travelling with ibex. Had few issues with my documents initially but later on they were sorted. The trip was amazing and very well curated.

Questions families ask

The visa

If my Vietnam visa is refused, how much money do I lose to the authorities?

You lose the whole e-visa fee, which Vietnam sets at 25 US dollars for a single-entry visa and 50 US dollars for a multiple-entry visa. Vietnam's National Electronic Visa system, run by the Immigration Department of the Ministry of Public Security, states that the e-visa application fee is paid through the e-visa portal's e-payment gateway and is non-refundable in case the visa is not granted.

What does a Vietnam e-visa cost?

Vietnam's official e-visa portal states the e-visa fee as 25 US dollars for a single-entry visa and 50 US dollars for a multiple-entry visa. The amounts are in US dollars, not dong and not rupees, and are paid online through the portal's own e-payment gateway at the time of application.

Can I enter Vietnam anywhere I like on an e-visa?

No. Vietnam's official e-visa portal states that foreigners using e-visas must enter and exit Viet Nam through international border gates designated by the Government, and publishes the list of those gates.

The trip

Do children pay less?

Under 2 years, 75 per cent off the adult price. From 2 to 8 years, 25 per cent off the adult price. Over 8 years, the full adult price. Tell us the ages when you enquire and the discount is shown on your quote before you pay anything.

What happens to my money if the trip falls through?

IBEX charges no processing fee and no cancellation fee of its own. Whatever comes off is what the airline or the embassy keeps, and we show you what it was. Ask us for the figure on your own trip before you pay anything, and we will put it in writing.

There are eight of us. Do you quote differently?

Tell us how many of you there are before anyone pays a deposit. Group bookings are quoted by us directly rather than added up seat by seat off this page.

Is there an age limit?

There is no age limit on our tours. Everyone is allowed, at any age, and children travel at a child fare.
